For this video, I just wanted to explain why as part of this course in Step 3, you’ll see that I will show how to build two different types of stores.
One is a store with Etsy and the other is a store with Shopify. Initially, the Ecomm clubhouse didn’t start out with any training on Etsy. However, overtime, there was a lot of demand for it.
I have since added in the Etsy store training. But that is the reason why throughout the course that you’re often going to hear me refer to Shopify for videos, even though a lot of the training also applies to Etsy as well. But there’s another reason for that as well. And that’s because I recommend that everybody set up their own store with Shopify. But I don’t recommend that everybody sets up a store with Etsy and here is why.
So, if you’ve never heard of Shopify before, it’s an amazing ecommerce platform for creating a store on your own website and your own domain. So, for example, as part of this tutorial course, I’ll be creating an example store called Brewed Treats, which will be themed around the coffee niche. This will be on its own entirely separate website and URL. Whereas Etsy is a very different platform, it’s an amazing third party marketplace that lets you list and sell products on their pre-existing website.
#+attr_html: :width 800px
[[../../_share/media/img/step_01/lesson_02/ex01.png]]
Now, this website gets hundreds of millions of visits from customers each month. So there’s lots of free traffic and customers take advantage of. And because you can only sell products that you design or create on here, it means that the average price that products sell for is much higher than other third party marketplaces such as Amazon or Redbubble.
#+attr_html: :width 800px
[[../../_share/media/img/step_01/lesson_02/ex02.png]]
So, as part of this tutorial course, I’ll be showing you how to set up an Etsy store. And when I do that, the example store niche that I’ll be theming it around is the camping and hiking niche.
But here is the thing, right? Because you have to be part of either the product design or creation process. If you’re only going to be dropshipping products from AliExpress, that means that you cannot sell them on Etsy. And that’s because the rule is you have to be a part of the design or creation process. And when you’re just reselling a product fromAliExpress, you have no part of that process. And so if you do try to sell them on Etsy, you will get banned.
Whereas when you set up your own store using Shopify, you can sell products however you like. You can drop ship them from AliExpress. You can use print-on-demand services. You can even sell digital products. And so what that means then is that while Etsy is not for everybody, Shopify is. There’s also something else to keep in mind. Even if you are selling products that you can sell on Etsy, I do not recommend that you only sell them on Etsy. I always recommend that Etsy sellersalso set up their own store.
And that’s because if you come to a product listing on Etsy, you’ll notice that Etsy is advertising other products on its right. Well, that’s the thing. These products often aren’t products that this seller is selling themselves. Instead, Etsy advertises other people’s products on your own listings, which means that you are losing money from people being upsold to other people’s products and not yours. Which is why you can make a lot more money per sale in your own store, since you can upsell customers into buying multiple products at once.
#+attr_html: :width 800px
[[../../_share/media/img/step_01/lesson_02/ex03.png]]
And something else that’s important is that when a customer buys an item on Etsy, they will give Etsy their email address, not you. And so it’s Etsy that gets to keep them as a long-term customer and email them products to buy in the future, not you. Whereas if you get a customer into your own store, then you are in control. That means that you can collect the customer’s email address and you can then get them to be a long-term customer of your store through follow up email marketing.
And this is a huge part about how I earn money with print-on-demand through email marketing and creating long term customers that buy from you years to come. That is why I personally believe that if you want to set up an Etsy store, that you should also combine it with your own online store with Shopify. That way you can get to take advantage of the large amounts of free traffic that you can get on Etsy, as they do get hundreds of millions of visitors each month. And you can then place a link to your Shopify store in your Etsy profile. And you can also name your stores the same name so that you can funnel customers from Etsy into your own online store.
And then in Step 4, we’ll be adding in a discount coupon to new customers into our Shopify store. So that means that Etsy visitors who click through to your store will see that it will be cheaper for them to buy directly through you. And this will then encourage them to purchase directly from your store rather than Etsy. And now they become your customer, not a customer on Etsy.
You also don’t have to sell with Etsy if you don’t want to. I know a lot of people would prefer to not sell on a third party marketplace because there are rules and there are also seller fees, and so selling on Etsy is entirely optional. If you’re one of those people, that’s absolutely fine, you can just skip over the Etsy tutorial videos and you can just stick to the Shopify Tutorial videos.
However, if you would like to build both types of stores, that’s absolutely fine. You can set up your Shopify store with my tutorial videos and then you can follow along with my Etsy tutorial videos to create your Etsy store so that you can combine the two together .But don’t worry. You don’t have to make that decision now. It’s just something to keep in mind for later on once you reach the Step 3 videos. So head on over to my next video and I’ll see you over there.

Hey there and welcome back! This is an extremely important video to watch. This video explains how I hack algorithms of websites by choosing to pick a store niche rather than just opening up a general Print On Demand store.

In step 1, we’re discussing my tips and tricks I use to pick a niche, and one of those is to brainstorm 20 niches. Niche means, it means to target a specific segment of the market. There are a lot of assumptions about niches that are very wrong.
People hear the word “niche” and they immediately think of personal interests that people have: such as being interested in pets, like dogs or cats. Or they think about hobbies that people are interested in, such as hiking, or biking, or cooking. Or they think about different careers that people work in, such as being a doctor, or being a nurse, or being a teacher.
And while those are niches, and potentially great niches for your store, there are lots of other types of market segments that people don’t even realize can be niches too. For example, there are niches where people are looking for help at achieving certain goals: such as looking for classroom resources to make teaching better, like school posters or extra help in mentally boosting themselves to achieve big dreams who purchase motivational products like motivational mugs to drink their morning coffee from in the morning. There are some customers that like to fill their home with items that match an aesthetic that they love, such as the Boho or Hippie aesthetic.
So, the phrase “niche” can actually be much bigger than most people think it is, so you’ve got lots of options for choosing to niche down.
That is why I like to recommend to people that they brainstorm and come up with, if they can, 20 different niche ideas you could potentially create a store around before they pick just 1.
It is quite a challenge to come up with 20 ideas! But, if you complete it, you’ll probably come up with ideas you might never have considered, if you’d just picked any idea that first came to your mind. That way, you don’t miss out on uncovering a winning niche that you could have overlooked.
And, in my experience, overlooked niches are some of the best opportunities for earning money!
But, again, brainstorming 20 niches can be pretty hard. So, let me show you some different websites I like to use, to help me do that.
*** Website #1: Etsy
1) Start off by doing a search for a general niche such as poster. Look at the different niches that you see.
2) Open up a product.
3) Look at the different keywords in the title, which can then give other ideas for different niches.
4) Open up Etsy stores, and see what niches they have within their stores. See if any of these spark joy.

*** Website #2: RedBubble
1) Start off by selecting a print-on-demand product. Let’s check posters like what we did on Etsy. Go to the ‘Wall Art’ category, then select ‘All Wall Art’.
2) Then select ‘Posters’.
3) You can also sort the products by clicking on this dropdown menu at the upper right hand corner of the results page and selecting ‘Best-selling’ so you can see what sort of niches are earning money right now.
4) Look at the different niches that you see. Open up a product to get a general idea of its niche.
5) Now you can see that this piece is in the Japanese niche and can also be in the Japanese culture, Japanese Historical Art niche.
6) Go back to the results page. Now that you’ve clicked the Japanese art niche, it will show you more results on that category or niche.
7) iPhone cases are also a really good product category on RedBubble to do research in, as this is one of the niches that have all over print products where the design is printed over the entire thing like the ones highlighted below.

*** Website #3: Zazzle
1) Start off by doing a search for a general category such as “mugs”.
2) Go through the listing and you can now see the different niches that are currently selling in the mugs category. For example: In Mug 1, this is in the workplace humor, accounting, Microsoft excel niches while Mug 2 falls on the tea and coffee niche.
3) Also, some homeware items on Zazzle can also be a good way to do research, such as opening up shower curtains.

*** Website #4: AliExpress
1) Come to Aliexpress and note that this is a good research tool, regardless of if you plan to add products in here to dropship. Do a search for a generic item like “t-shirt”.
2) To start searching for products, come and click ‘Orders’. This will show you which products currently has the most sales.
3) Browse through, and identify different types of niches that I can see in the t-shirt. The thing with Aliexpress is that you should be aware of the copyright infringement that comes with some of the designs. As we’re just doing some research here, what we can do is get ideas from these shirts. For example, this Black Sabbath shirt has a copyrighted design so what we can do instead, is focus on the other niches for this which are the music or rock music niche.
4) To know more about the niche of a product, open up the Aliexpress listing.
Now it says here in the title that this is a funny shirt for men but when you open up the listing, this has also the potential for the homesteading niche, like for people raising chickens.
You can also try the stickers category which is a great category for niche ideas. Remember: Keep the copyright infringement in mind when listing down the niches.

*** Summary
So those are some of my favorite websites to use for brainstorming ideas. However, these are not the only websites you can use. You can find inspiration in lots of places.
These are just websites that have helped me a lot, and that I think can help you as well.
So, go ahead and research, and write down 20 different niche ideas now that you find interesting. And I’ll see you in the next video!

We’re going to take our big list of niche ideas that we have brainstormed, and narrow it down to just 5 ideas. What we’re going to do is take our big list of ideas, and identify the ones where we think we might have a unique ADVANTAGE in them.
And to do this, we will NOT be using research data because using research data is actually quite time-intensive. For most people it isn’t realistic to come and take all of their niches and deep dive into them, it would take too long.
So instead, we’re going to figure out which niches on your list you have an advantage in by asking some very important questions. About YOU. Yes, YOU.
And my first question to you is this: What are YOU passionate about? This is THE number 1 factor to consider.
That is for 3 reasons. The first is that it’s because the number 1 trait that has been identified by researchers, when researching people who are successful in all endeavours in life: whether it be finicial and business success, or whether it is sporting success, or it is artistic success, is that they all share the same number 1 trait: GRIT.
Grit is the willingness to stick at something, even when it is tough. And one of the easiest ways to have grit is to enjoy what you’re doing and to have it make you smile, and to have it be fun.
And the second reason is that by picking something you are passionate about, YOU often have secret knowledge about it. So for example, I am a travel geek. I love all forms of transport: such as cool buses, or cool trains, or cool planes.
Being obsessed with planes means that I have a lot of secret knowledge about the niche that people with only a surface level knowledge would know. For example: most people get on a plane and don’t know the model of the plane that they are flying on.
But I know the different jargon of the different plane model names, and their advantages and disadvantages. And I also know a bunch of frequent flyer slang as well, such as the phrase “mileage run” which refers to taking a series of flights just for the sake of getting more miles so you can get higher status on planes.
It’s slang and knowledge like this that can help you make products that people in your niche will love and identify with.
And the third, possibly most important reason, is because if you are passionate about a niche or like it, then YOU are a target customer.
And this makes it easier to create products that fill a gap in the market.
GAP IN THE MARKET means to create a product that a customer would like, but that they currently can’t get. Or it could be that you come up with a brand new product idea, or that you take a pre-existing product, and make it better, or put a twist on it that people would like, but currently can’t buy.
And when you fill a gap in the market, it can make a lot of money. Because when people see your product, and go ‘Oh, that is so cool, I haven’t seen anything like that before, I would like to buy it!’
They have to buy it from YOU. This is one of the best ways to succeed as a new store. Rather than competing with big stores by copying them, if you fill gaps in the market, people have to pick YOU instead of them.
But, to identify a gap in the market, you have to be able to go into the mind and brain of your potential customers.
And so rather than just try and guess what they want, picking a niche where YOU are the target customer lets you just think to yourself, “OK, What product would I like that doesn’t currently exist?”
And then you can then design that product. But there is something else you can use to help you narrow down your niches, and that is guessing which niches you think will make the most money. Because, chances are, you can probably take a look at your list of ideas and identify which ones you think have the most customers and money potential.
And don’t worry, we will soon use actual research data to confirm if your suspicions are true. But for now, you can just guess. Because here is the thing about money. Even if you aren’t interested in a niche, if it makes you a lot of money, for many people, that can become a very strong motivator to quickly become an expert in it, even if they weren’t before.
So if you don’t have enough niches that you’re interested in, then money can be a great way to narrow them down.
And a third thing to consider is this: while researching, did you notice any niches that didn’t have a lot of good options? If so, that means that it could be a niche that is easier to have success in.
Because on, say, Etsy, a lot of people will say it is impossible to sell dog-themed products, because dogs are such a popular niche on Etsy, that it is too “saturated” for new products to succeed, but I personally think that is ridiculous. Dog products aren’t too saturated to compete in: they are just competitive. Because the customer base is so big, lots of people have come in and made dog mugs.
So that means that a lot of really great mugs themed around dogs out there exist. But if you were to come in, and make an awesome dog themed mug, then thanks to the Etsy New Product Boost, your dog mug could take off too. But it only will if it can match or beat the high quality mugs on Etsy.
Whereas, if you instead pick a niche with very few products in it, then that means that customers don’t have a lot of high quality products to pick from. So, from my experience, your design doesn’t have to be as amazing, or as clever to succeed, as it would need to in a more competitive niche which might not matter if you’re an amazing graphic artist, or an amazing artist. You might know that you have the skills to beat out the competition for competitive, big niches.
But if you would rather not have as much competition, then keep this in mind when narrowing down your 5 niches.
So then, narrow down your list to 5, and I’ll see you in the next video! 🙂

** intro
In this video, we’re going to be using data to help us choose what niche we want to build our store around. So to do that, we’re going to use several different websites. Now you don’t have to use them all, you can choose the ones that you want to use. But I’ll show you how you can use different websites. So we’re going to be using WordStream. We’re going to be using Etsy, Tiktok, Google, and Facebook Ads. Now, as I said, you don’t have to use all of these websites depending on what type of store you want to build. Whether you’re looking to do print-on-demand products and potentially do digital products, or if you’re planning on dropshipping products, you might want to use different websites.
But our goal is to use these websites to assess how big a niche is, how many sales there are, how many customers there are. And in general, the more customers that you see and the more people that you see interested in a niche, the more money there is to be made. Now it’s up to you. You might decide that you’re looking at the designs in that niche or you’re looking at the products in that niche and you don’t think you can make designs as good as that, or you don’t think you can find products as good as the ones that are selling. In which case you might want to go into one of the different niches on your list.
But for most people, what they’re probably going to want to do is they’re going to want to take the niches that they have narrowed down and then using this data, assess which one has the biggest audience because that means it has the highest profit potential and then to go in and choose that one. So let’s get started with WordStream.

Welcome to our secret library of premium, over-the-shoulder training videos! Inside this course you are going to learn the tips & tricks that I use, to create & sell awesome Print On Demand products with both Shopify & Etsy.
As you watch along, you’ll quickly discover that while I show step-by-step tutorials on how I do things, like set up stores or optimize product listings, that this course is actually more like a choose-your-own adventure. Rather than tell you that you have to do things the exact same way as me, I instead show you the strategies & tips I like, but let you decide what is best for you.
For example, in Step 1 In my Etsy vs Shopify Video I explain why I like to sell on both – but it’s up to you what you would prefer to do. Want to sell just on Shopify? That’s great: my Shopify videos will hopefully help you. Just want to sell on Etsy? That’s great: hopefully my Etsy videos will help you too.
And in Step 2, I showcase different methods I use to create products. I showcase how I use Canva, Ai Art & free pictures that I find in free stock image libraries online. Don’t like Canva, but like Ai Art? That’s great: you can just use Ai Art. Don’t like Ai Art, and prefer to instead prefer to design images yourself using apps like Canva? That is great too. It is up to you!
And as a bonus, I also include some extra training on how to add in Dropshipped products into a Shopify store if you want to create a “flex” store (that sells both Dropshipped products, and Print On Demand products). Don’t want to create a “flex” store and just want to sell your own Print On Demand products? That is fine, you can skip those videos! Want to create a “flex” store? Then be sure to give them a watch.
As I like to say, there is no “best business” – there are just different businesses. And so as you watch along I hope I can help you build a business that is best for YOU, and that YOU love!

** lesson 2 - shopify vs etsy (which should you sell with?)
- [[./_share/data/step 1/lesson 1.mov][video]]
#+attr_html: :width 300px
[[./_share/media/img/step_1/lesson_2/ex01.png]]
Now, this website gets hundreds of millions of visits from customers each month. So there’s lots of free traffic and customers take advantage of. And because you can only sell products that you design or create on here, it means that the average price that products sell for is much higher than other third party marketplaces such as Amazon or Redbubble.
#+attr_html: :width 300px
[[./_share/media/img/step_1/lesson_2/ex02.png]]
#+attr_html: :width 300px
[[./_share/media/img/step_1/lesson_2/ex03.png]]
