I have no legal training. I cannot give legal advice. This video is not a replacement for a lawyer. This is information I am giving from my personal perspective and experience. Some important links for this video are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain https://pixabay.com https://pexels.com https://free-images.com https://www.rawpixel.com/category/53/public-domain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixabay https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pexels * Review ** Summary This lesson explains how to find free photos, clip art, illustrations, and public domain images for print-on-demand products. ** Core Idea Free images can be useful for POD, but the license matters. Do not treat “free to use” as the same thing as “safe to sell unchanged.” ** Main Sources - Pixabay - Pexels - Free-images.com - Rawpixel - Canva image library ** Important License Distinction *** Public Domain / CC0 Usually the safest and broadest category. Generally allows: - commercial use - modification - redistribution - use without attribution *** Platform Licenses Pixabay, Pexels, and Rawpixel also have their own licenses. These often allow commercial use, but may restrict: - selling the image unchanged - using it as standalone merchandise - redistribution without meaningful modification ** Pixabay Notes Pixabay images uploaded before January 9, 2019 were under CC0/public-domain-style licensing. Images uploaded after that generally fall under the Pixabay license, which is more restrictive and vague about how much editing is required. ** Pexels Notes Pexels also had older CC0 images, but newer uploads use the Pexels license. The exact upload date matters. ** Free-images.com Useful because it helps locate images that were originally marked public domain / CC0. This is helpful when you want safer images with fewer licensing concerns. ** Rawpixel Notes Rawpixel has separate sections: - public domain - free Do not confuse them. The public domain section is much safer for direct POD use. The free section may require considerable artistic modification. ** Canva Notes Canva includes images from sources like: - Pexels - Pixabay - Getty Images Use the information tab to check where an image came from. If needed, search for the original upload to check its license/date. ** Warnings - Always read the license yourself. - Free does not always mean public domain. - Commercial use does not always mean you can sell the image unchanged. - Platform rules may be stricter than copyright law. - Redbubble may reject public domain images if they are not transformed enough. - Etsy appears more tolerant, but you should still check current rules. - This is not legal advice. ** Image Source Checklist [0/6] - [ ] Identify original source - [ ] Check license type - [ ] Check upload date if relevant - [ ] Confirm commercial use is allowed - [ ] Confirm whether modification is required - [ ] Save/source the license evidence ** Public Domain Safety Checklist [0/5] - [ ] Image is marked CC0/public domain - [ ] Source page confirms license - [ ] No trademark/copyright issue visible - [ ] No misleading endorsement implied - [ ] Platform allows this use ** POD Use Checklist [0/5] - [ ] Image is high enough quality - [ ] Image fits product format - [ ] Image is modified if license requires it - [ ] Final design is distinct enough for platform rules - [ ] Test product mockup before publishing ** Key Insight There are two separate questions: 1. Am I legally allowed to use this? 2. Will this platform allow me to sell it? Both must be yes. ** My Take The safest workflow is: 1. Prefer CC0/public domain sources 2. Keep proof of source/license 3. Modify the image creatively anyway 4. Check marketplace rules before uploading ** Bottom Line Free images can be valuable, but license discipline matters. Use them carefully, track your sources, and avoid assuming that every “free” image can be sold unchanged. * Transcript #+begin_example 00:00 Hey, everyone. So in this video, I'm just gonna take 00:03 you through 00:04 how I personally find free pictures as in free clip 00:08 art, free art, and free photos 00:11 which I use for print on demand products that I 00:14 create. And it's actually a really common thing. 00:16 So, 00:18 while definitely there are lots of very talented 00:21 print on demand, 00:23 stores who 00:24 do create their own photos. They take their own photos 00:27 and they make their own art. 00:30 A lot of, 00:31 people, 00:32 use free photos and free pictures that they find online 00:35 and turn them into products as well. 00:38 And I wanted to give you an example of this. 00:40 So 1 of the most common ones that you will 00:42 see 00:43 is, 00:44 in here, there is a very popular beach photo, which 00:48 is 00:49 a, print on which is a public domain photo here. 00:52 So this photo here, 00:55 if we come 00:56 back, we'll 00:58 see here that that's so that's 1 seller who's using 01:01 that, 01:03 and there's another seller here who's using it. 01:06 And if you come on over to Redbubble, it's actually 01:08 1 of the most popular, 01:11 wall prints on there. So this is a free picture 01:15 which you can find on Pixabay. 01:17 And so this is how 01:19 most of us in the print on demand world, this 01:22 is how 01:23 we get a lot of 01:26 pictures, 01:27 photos, clip art. We find free pictures on websites like 01:31 Pixabay. 01:32 So I'm gonna be taking you through some of the 01:34 ones that I personally use. 01:37 And, 01:37 Pixabay, 01:38 it's 01:39 very, very interesting. 01:42 So this here is Pixabay. If you've never heard of 01:45 Pixabay before, it is a huge online 01:48 stock library 01:49 of royalty free photos, 01:52 pictures. There's also videos and music and sound effects on 01:56 here as well that you can use which could be 01:58 really great for advertising purposes. But when it comes to 02:00 creating products, you're probably gonna be most interested obviously 02:04 in the photos 02:05 and the pictures. 02:07 And all of these 02:09 are pictures which have been uploaded by the original artist. 02:12 And so the artist has chosen to upload their, 02:16 their art 02:17 and, they have uploaded it for the greater good. 02:20 So this is not stolen content. 02:23 This is pictures 02:25 by the artist and the way it works is really 02:27 simple. Let's say we came here and, you know, we 02:29 searched for, 02:31 surfing. 02:33 If we don't clarify exactly what we want, it's going 02:35 to, 02:37 show it to us. It's gonna, you know, look through 02:40 all of its, you know, different pictures to do with 02:42 surfing. 02:44 And it shows in here photos because they're probably the 02:46 most popular. But we can come and we 02:49 can specifically choose. So, 02:51 we can come 02:53 and we can choose. So we can come here and 02:55 we can be like, you know, for example, illustration. 02:58 Sorry. 02:59 I opened up the 03:01 the Vietnamese version of Pixabay and now it's 03:04 set to Vietnamese. 03:06 So, 03:08 my IP addresses. So you can see here now we've 03:10 got different vectors. 03:11 And, you know, you could use this here, for example, 03:14 in a t shirt design. And, 03:17 yeah. So it's a really amazing website to find 03:21 a ton of free content. 03:23 However, the thing you have to understand when you're coming 03:26 here is that, 03:28 they 03:29 there are different licenses for different images and it's not 03:33 well 03:34 explained. 03:36 So if we come here, for example, to, you know, 03:39 this this photo here, 03:42 it says that, you know, it it it says to 03:45 us it's free to use. Great. And it's got a 03:48 link to a content license. Well, if we come and, 03:52 oh, sorry. Let's open up that content license. 03:55 If we open up the content license, you know, it 03:58 says so we can use the content for free. We 04:00 don't have to attribute the author, which is true. So 04:02 we don't have to attribute to the artist and that 04:04 we can modify and adapt it into 04:07 new works. 04:08 But then it has a bunch of prohibited uses. Now 04:11 these prohibited uses do not stop you from using this. 04:14 They're just a little bit 04:15 vague. So, you know, they say that you can't sell 04:18 or distribute the photo as it is without editing it, 04:20 which makes sense. 04:22 But they don't really explain exactly what would count as 04:26 editing it. So whenever you use an image which has 04:29 this license, 04:31 you probably do want to edit it substantially. 04:33 And because I'm not a lawyer, 04:35 I can't tell you how much you you have to 04:37 change and modify 04:38 the image for it to count. 04:42 But, 04:43 yeah. 04:44 This the, 04:46 people use this use these images all the time. And 04:49 a big part of why they use these images is 04:51 because 04:52 if you come here to, Pixabay's Wikipedia page, it explains 04:55 it even better than I can. Pixabay was actually purchased 04:59 by Canva. 05:00 So the images that you find on the Pixabay website 05:04 are included within Canva usually if you have a Canva 05:08 account, which is very helpful so that you don't have 05:10 to go and download them from Pixabay and then re 05:12 upload them into Canva 05:13 if you are using that app. 05:16 However, something that's important to note is that, 05:19 this 05:21 license 05:22 here, this did not always exist on Pixabay. 05:25 So Pixabay, 05:26 back, 05:27 before, 05:30 the ninth of January 2019, 05:32 all of the images on Pixabay 05:34 had a CC 0 license which is effectively a public 05:38 domain license. 05:39 And a public domain license 05:42 is, 05:44 very, very broad and it lets you use 05:48 images legally 05:50 without making any modifications 05:53 to them. There are some legal restrictions. So for example, 05:56 you can't 05:58 like, there are restrictions around, 06:01 like, for example, 06:02 like implying that the subjects 06:05 in the photo might agree 06:07 or be, 06:09 they might agree with like, you know, like your your 06:11 product or your message or things like that. So there 06:14 are some legal limits of that but they're very, very 06:17 minor. So generally, with a public domain license, 06:21 you can just resell images as is legally. 06:25 So that's why even though when you come to Canva, 06:28 it tells you it will it will post a content 06:31 license 06:32 on every single page. 06:34 However, 06:35 anything that was, 06:38 uploaded 06:39 prior to ninth of January 2019 06:42 on Pixabay 06:43 has a public domain license 06:45 which again is extremely unrestrictive and that can't be changed. 06:49 You cannot legally change a public domain license once it's 06:54 occurred. Once you've placed it in the public domain, it's 06:56 there forever. 06:58 So, you know, as the terms of CC0 explicitly 07:01 indicate, 07:02 that the surrender into the public domain, 07:05 you know, it cannot be changed. Once it's in there, 07:08 it's in there forever. 07:09 So you're going to see why that's important shortly in 07:12 this video. So that's why when you're using Pixabay to 07:15 find free pictures, 07:17 you want to come and you want to check out 07:18 the details. So you want to see when it was 07:20 uploaded. 07:21 So for example, 07:23 this 1 here, it was uploaded 07:26 in April 22, 07:28 20 19. 07:30 So this means then that it was uploaded 07:33 after January ninth 2019. 07:36 So this does not have a public domain license. This 07:38 has this license. 07:40 So keep that in mind that this license states that 07:44 you do have to, 07:46 you can't sell this photo as is. 07:50 Whereas, 07:52 I'm just gonna quickly show you something. 07:55 This is here what I wanted to show you. So 07:57 this picture here, the 1 that, you know, all of 08:00 the people on, 08:02 Etsy are using, if we come and we check out 08:05 the details of it, you will see that it was 08:07 uploaded August 17 2017, 08:10 which means then, 08:12 obviously, 08:13 it was uploaded with a public domain license or effectively 08:17 a public domain license because it has a c c 08:19 0 license and that can't be changed. That's why this 08:23 picture is so popular, not only because it's a great 08:26 picture 08:27 but because of the fact that it has such an 08:29 unrestrictive 08:30 license. 08:31 So it's up to you when you're using Pixabay. 08:35 You can choose to use all of the images 08:38 in there because they are allowed to be used for 08:40 commercial purposes. 08:42 When you do, keep in mind that if you're going 08:44 to be using 08:46 images that were uploaded 08:48 after January ninth 2019, 08:50 they do have the Pixabay license and that license is 08:53 vague. 08:54 And so if you don't want to have to worry 08:57 about the vague license 08:59 and if you're not sure if your edits are going 09:01 to be, 09:03 substantial 09:04 enough 09:04 to an image, 09:06 then you can just focus on finding images that have 09:10 the public domain license. And there is an easy way 09:13 to do that which I will explain shortly. But there's 09:16 another website I wanna talk about too which you can 09:19 find free images and it is very similar to Pixabay. 09:24 So this is the website I wanted to show you, 09:26 Pexels. It's very similar to Pixabay. Pixabay has a lot 09:30 of different types of pictures so it's the 1 that 09:33 I tend to go to out of the 2, because 09:35 it's got both photos and it's got 09:38 clip 09:39 art and vectors. 09:41 But Pexels just focuses on photos and 09:45 videos. So you can come here, you can find photos 09:47 and videos. 09:49 But just like Pixabay, 09:51 the photos on here have a royalty free license. And 09:54 so, you know, it's very similar. You come here, you 09:56 just type in, you're surfing, 09:58 and now you've got a bunch 10:00 of photos. And a lot of the photos you find 10:02 on Pexels, 10:04 are, 10:05 like stunning. Like, there are very very 10:08 stunning photos on here and 10:11 they are free. 10:12 And 10:13 their license 10:14 is extremely similar to Pixabay. 10:17 You are allowed to use them for free even for 10:19 commercial purposes. You don't have to attribute 10:22 the artist 10:24 and, you know, you're welcome to modify them. And you 10:26 do have to modify them if you want to sell 10:29 them. You cannot sell unaltered copies. 10:32 You have to modify it first. 10:34 Again, they do not give you a big explanation as 10:38 to what that means so it is vague. And so 10:40 I understand that a lot of people will be iffy 10:42 about using them for commercial purposes because they don't give 10:46 a vague because they give a vague answer as to 10:48 what counts. 10:50 However, just like with Pixabay, 10:52 some of these images were uploaded with a CC 0 10:55 license. In fact, a lot were. I don't know the 10:58 exact date unfortunately, 11:00 but 11:02 there was 11:03 prior 11:05 to 11:06 it's it was sometime I believe in 2019 11:11 or maybe even late 2018. 11:13 It used to be that just like with Pixabay, initially 11:16 the images were uploaded with a CC 0 license. 11:20 So now, of course, any images that are uploaded 11:23 since the change, since when they added in their own 11:25 content license, which again I think was either like late 11:28 2018, 11:29 maybe 2019, 11:32 images from that point onwards 11:34 do now have the Pixels license. But the images that 11:37 were initially uploaded with the CC 0 license, that license 11:41 is there forever. And even though every single image you 11:44 find on here, it's just like with Pixabay where they 11:47 place 11:47 that content license that, you know, that they will have 11:50 on their I can't find it on here, but they'll 11:52 probably have a link to 11:54 the, 11:56 they'll have a link to the content license probably on 11:58 every single page, even images which don't have, 12:02 even which images which do have a CC 0 license, 12:05 they won't state that. 12:07 But, 12:09 the the images that were uploaded with that have it 12:11 and they have it for life. And you can see 12:14 that there's a button, edit in Canva. That's because Pexels 12:17 was also purchased by Canva. So it's very handy 12:20 that, 12:22 generally, anything that's on Pexels, you'll usually find already within 12:26 Canva. 12:27 So very, very convenient. 12:30 But of course, what's not convenient is, you know, trying 12:34 to know which images are in the public domain if 12:37 that's what you want to stick to. If you just 12:38 wanna stick to the images with a CC 0 license, 12:42 that information is not easily done. You can't just come 12:44 here and search for those 12:46 which is why 12:48 we wanna use my favorite website next. 12:52 Okay. So we have come to free dash images dot 12:56 com And this is an incredible resource. 13:00 So this was created, I believe, in response to the 13:03 fact that websites like Pixabay and Pexels 13:06 changed their licenses 13:09 but did not place on their website 13:12 information on how to find 13:14 the images which were uploaded with the CC 0 license 13:17 and now legally have that license for 13:20 life. So this was created and it allows you to 13:24 search for photos online that have that license and it 13:29 is really really helpful. So you come here and you 13:32 choose what type of image that you want. So 13:36 like if we come to stock images, it's gonna be 13:38 things like 13:41 photos. 13:44 So you can see photos. 13:46 If we come 13:47 and do a search 13:50 for, 13:51 fine art I'm not sure if we're gonna get anything 13:53 because a lot of the fine art is historical fine 13:56 art and I don't know when surfing was created. So 13:59 it doesn't have any fine art. Oh, shoot. There we 14:01 go. So you know you see it's found some historical 14:03 artwork there. 14:06 Yeah. And this wooded flowers. 14:10 There we go. So this is more what you expect 14:12 to find with fine art. 14:15 And if we come and, you know, we do a 14:17 search for 14:18 illustrations, 14:20 now we've got, you know, like clip art style things 14:23 and also just, you know, like paintings. 14:25 So, you can find so many free images on here. 14:29 And 14:31 the really great thing is that it tells you 14:33 where it was sourced from. 14:35 So 14:36 you come here for example. 14:39 So 14:40 this is actually from Pixabay. 14:43 This This image was acquired from Pixabay. It was marked 14:45 as public domain or c c 0 and is free 14:47 to use. To verify, go to the source and check 14:49 the information there. 14:51 What do they do? They provide a link 14:54 to where you can go and 14:57 check it out 14:58 on Pixabay 15:00 which is fantastic. So you can go and, 15:04 you know, check to see, 15:06 when it was uploaded if you want to double check, 15:08 which is always a really good idea to do. Because 15:12 once again, we're here on Pixabay and it's got the 15:14 content license linked on this page, 15:17 very deceptive. 15:19 But if we come to details, 15:21 you will see it was uploaded May seventeenth 15:23 2016. 15:25 So it was uploaded with a CC 0 license 15:28 and that legally cannot be changed, which is why free 15:30 images dot com 15:32 has, created this resource for us so that we can 15:36 easily go find them. So you could go and this 15:39 image is probably within Canva if you would like to 15:41 use it. 15:44 Or if, you know, if you're not using Canva and 15:47 you wanna find images, 15:49 outside of it or if you want to very easy 15:51 or if you would rather download images 15:53 with a CC 0 license so that you know for 15:56 certain, you might find it on here and then re 15:58 upload it. You can you don't have to go to 16:00 Pixabay and download this if you don't want to. You 16:03 can just download it from here. 16:05 So, 16:07 this is an absolutely amazing resource 16:09 and the majority of images on free dash images dot 16:13 com come from, 16:15 Pixabay and Pexels. So that's why even though I can't 16:19 think off the top of my head the exact date 16:21 that Pexels changed over their license, the wonderful thing is 16:25 that we have this website here 16:27 which, 16:29 has already done the information for us and has sorted 16:32 through them. 16:33 So it is fantastic. 16:36 But there is 16:37 another website which is also very helpful to know about. 16:42 And that website is this 1 here, Rawpixel. 16:46 So Rawpixel 16:47 has a huge directory of different images that you can 16:50 use online and they all come in a range of 16:54 different licenses. 16:55 So, 16:56 they have a public domain section and they have a 17:00 free section 17:01 on the website. A lot of people mix these up. 17:04 I once showcased Rawpixel in a wholesale TED video. 17:07 People came. They came to the free images. They downloaded 17:10 them. They got into a lot of trouble. 17:13 They didn't realize that the public domain section is separate 17:16 from the free section. 17:18 So 17:19 the public domain stuff has a c c 0 license 17:22 and the c c 0 license allows you to just 17:25 literally redistribute 17:27 the exact same picture for commercial purposes. 17:30 Yeah. It's pretty 17:32 it's pretty open with what you can do with it. 17:38 So, 17:38 with this 1 here, a lot of the pictures they 17:42 have 17:43 are, 17:44 are historical pictures. 17:46 And the interesting thing is that there are there's a 17:48 there was a legal ruling in the USA 17:50 that, 17:52 even if because like a lot of these images are 17:54 heavily edited images of the original artwork pieces to restore 17:58 them. So they had to edit the original photos that 18:01 they took of these pieces or the scans. 18:04 And so it used to be that perhaps that was 18:06 considered to be creative 18:08 work. So you couldn't just take somebody's 18:10 enhanced version because they had to put artistic 18:13 effort, a lot of artistic 18:16 into enhancing that. However, it was deemed that that was 18:19 not considered to be, 18:22 different enough from the original. And so even if you 18:25 enhance an older piece of art, that still has a 18:28 public domain license as per the ruling in the USA. 18:32 So these images here, they have released under the public 18:35 domain license like they legally have to, 18:38 even though they are enhanced versions of it. So if 18:40 you would like to get 18:42 historical artwork 18:44 because 18:45 this this stuff here, this can be used for all 18:48 sorts of different things. Look at this. These are beautiful 18:51 backgrounds. 18:52 You don't 18:54 have to be 18:55 selling something aimed at a historical, 18:59 context, like, you know, aimed at people that enjoy historical 19:01 artwork to find a use for a beautiful background like 19:05 this. 19:05 This is timeless. So you can download public domain images 19:09 from here. They also do have a big collection of 19:13 public domain, 19:15 photos as well. 19:17 A lot of them are from, 19:21 NASA actually 19:23 because NASA released their images in the public domain. So 19:26 they took a lot of their images and they enhanced 19:29 them. 19:30 So, 19:31 a lot of people who sell Hubble images 19:34 will get their images 19:36 from RawPixel 19:37 because they are beautifully 19:39 enhanced and they are in the public domain. And if 19:42 you go to Etsy, you will find people selling photos 19:45 from NASA. 19:46 If you want to use their free images, 19:49 I would again recommend that you look over the license 19:52 because, 19:53 the license 19:55 is restrictive. 19:56 So, 19:57 this one's in the public domain, so this one's not. 19:59 But this 1 here I had been looking at and 20:01 it has the free license. So for example so if 20:04 if you come and if you view the license, 20:07 again, is very vague. 20:09 I really wish they were not so vague. 20:11 Commercial use license. 20:13 You obviously cannot distribute it as is. That's very standard. 20:17 You can't use raw pixel content for prints or other 20:20 merchandise 20:21 without adding considerable artistic value. 20:24 What does that mean? 20:26 It's very, very vague. 20:28 But there are a lot of incredible free images. 20:32 So, 20:33 again, your mileage may vary. If you want to use 20:36 1 of their free images 20:39 in a design, 20:41 the license and, again, you need to read over the 20:43 license for yourself, but the license does allow you 20:47 to, 20:48 use them in commercial, 20:50 products. 20:52 But it has restrictions. Whereas the public domain license, 20:55 very few restrictions. 20:57 You know, they've got the public domain 21:00 license 21:03 here. So, 21:04 yes. 21:06 You've got 2 different types here on RawPixel, 21:09 but it can be a fantastic resource 21:12 as 21:13 well. And I also want to show you something else 21:16 that I think you'll find very helpful to, 21:19 know to. 21:21 And that is this. So if you are going to 21:24 be using Canva 21:25 and 21:27 you're not going to be sourcing your photos 21:29 from outside of, 21:32 like in from Pixabay and uploading them and you instead 21:34 want to just use the images that have been directly 21:37 from uploaded from Pixabay into 21:41 into Canva itself, 21:42 you can find out the history of that image, which 21:45 is, you know, good to know. So let's say I 21:47 came and did a search for New Zealand 21:49 and I came to photos 21:52 and then let's come and say that I found this 21:54 1 here. Well, what we can do is we can 21:56 come to the information 21:58 tab 21:58 and we can find more information about where it was 22:01 where it came from. So this 1 here, it came 22:04 from Getty Images, 22:06 and Canva has purchased a license for it. Whereas this 22:08 1 here and so this is a pro image. 22:11 Whereas this 1 here, we can come we can check 22:13 out the information from it. This 1 is from Pexels. 22:16 So this is why this 1 has a free license 22:19 because this was already 22:21 a, 22:23 a free image. 22:24 And, 22:25 whereas, 22:26 this 1 here, Canva, 22:29 has a deal with Getty Images to be able to 22:32 use that. And, if you want to find out more 22:36 information about this, you can use this to find, 22:40 to generally find 22:41 the original upload to Pexels. So if you wanna find 22:45 out, for example, what date this was uploaded, 22:49 you could, look for, 22:51 this photographer 22:53 within pixels. You could go do a Google search for 22:56 this photographer 22:57 to then get access to their profile. 23:00 And I'll actually do that, right now as an example. 23:04 So I'm back and I went and I did a 23:06 search for him. So put in the name, put in 23:09 pixels, and 23:11 there is, 23:13 the 23:14 photographer. 23:15 So now you could go through and you could find, 23:20 that image, and then you could check out the date. 23:23 So there were there are 300 23:26 images in here. We're looking for this 1. I'll quickly, 23:30 briefly just check around to see if I can quickly 23:32 find it, but I won't make everybody go through with 23:35 me 23:36 while I do a search. 23:38 But, like, let's take for example this 1 here. This 23:40 is also, by the looks of it, in New Zealand. 23:45 Information. 23:46 This was uploaded October fourth 20 22. So, 23:52 we can know that this image here does does not 23:56 have a CC 0 license. This has 23:59 Pexels license. 24:01 But that's what's really nice. We can take the information 24:05 that we find within Canva, and then if you do 24:07 find the original photo, 24:10 you can then check out, 24:12 the 24:14 what date it was uploaded. 24:16 So let's see. 24:18 Oh, hold on. 24:20 This 1 here, more information. 24:23 This 1 here was uploaded March fifth 24:26 20 22. So even though it was taken in 2014, 24:30 what matters is the date that it was uploaded in 24:32 and it was uploaded, 24:34 March fifth 20 22. So this picture here has a, 24:39 has the standard Pexels license, but there it is. Right 24:42 there, we found it. It wasn't hard to find at 24:44 all. 24:45 So that is very helpful. 24:47 But, 24:49 there is something that I want to talk about. 24:52 So the first thing I want to talk about is 24:54 this. Before 24:56 you use any images that you find online, 24:59 be sure to read 25:01 what the restriction what the license for it is and 25:04 then any restrictions that go along with it. Do not 25:06 take 25:07 anything I say as legal advice because I am not 25:11 a lawyer. 25:12 I cannot give legal advice. 25:14 I am not a copyright lawyer. I can only speak 25:17 from my own personal experience. 25:20 So you know, everything I tell you about the public 25:22 domain, be sure to read it. Be sure to read 25:24 it and find out if there's any restrictions on there 25:27 that I did not mention. 25:29 And, 25:31 make sure to read over anything yourself, 25:34 because I'm not a lawyer and I cannot give legal 25:36 advice. The second thing is that keep in mind, even 25:40 if you are legally 25:41 allowed to sell an image as is without modifying it, 25:45 it doesn't mean that the website that you wanna upload 25:47 it to is going to allow that. Case in point, 25:50 red bubble. So as we've established, 25:52 this 25:53 is a public domain image. We all have the right 25:56 to come in and use this. You could upload this 25:59 image today legally if you want. But Redbubble 26:03 have historically been very inconsistent about whether or not they 26:06 have allowed it. They do talk about public domain pictures 26:09 within the FAQ and they have clarified that you can 26:12 use public domain images. However, they have also stated that 26:15 they now would like them to 26:18 be used for new creative 26:20 pieces. 26:21 Again, they're very vague about how you can use them. 26:26 So unless you are substantially transforming them, these days, if 26:29 you just upload 26:31 a public domain picture like this and modify the colors, 26:34 I think that you are going to have very inconsistent 26:37 results about whether Redbubble is okay with that or not. 26:41 And I haven't been able to get clarification necessarily on 26:44 why sometimes they are okay with it and sometimes they're 26:47 not. My guess is that if the picture has not 26:49 been uploaded previously 26:50 that they're 26:52 much more welcome to it. But if they don't want 26:54 to have 100 people, for example, just uploading this picture, 26:58 you know. Even if they legally can, Redbubble can say, 27:00 we don't wanna be flooded with this exact same picture. 27:04 And so they can make that choice. Just because you 27:06 can legally 27:07 doesn't mean that a website is going to allow it. 27:09 Be sure to read the terms and conditions. 27:12 Whereas on Etsy, 27:14 as I said to you, it's much more free game 27:18 on here. I have not read anything personally in Etsy's 27:21 terms of service 27:23 that has said that you can't use them 27:25 and people use them all of the time. So that 27:28 picture here, it's from this seller here. 27:31 This seller here is using it. If we were to 27:34 scroll down long enough, we'd find another person who's using 27:38 it. 27:40 This is not the same picture but it's from the 27:43 same photographer. 27:44 This person here is using that picture. So 27:48 I said to you, if we could just if we 27:49 keep scrolling and scrolling, we'd find more people who are 27:52 using this picture. So, you know, 27:55 with Etsy, 27:57 they have historically been absolutely welcome for using it. 28:02 But, 28:03 yeah. Make sure you check with every single website you 28:06 want to upload it to 28:08 before you do that so that you don't get into 28:10 any trouble. Peace. These are my favorite websites and I 28:14 hope that they can help you. #+end_example
