what is blend-if
- controls which areas show up and which hide based on brightness levels
shine and dimension

add solid color layer
- sample color of highlight
- pick brighter or lower shade
- mask- CMD+I
- dab white on mask wherever you want the highlight
- change blend mode to 'Screen'

take away from darkened areas
- double click on right hand side of highlight layer to open up 'layer style'
- in 'Blending Options', move underlying layer lefthand slider to the right
- hold Opt key on lefthand slider to break it apart, move the rightmost to the right, and left a bit left
adjustment
- you can change the highlight color to anything you like by changing the color of the solid color layer
refine it
- CMD+J on color layer to duplicate it
- open the layer style
- modify underlying layer
apply only to hair ignoring face
- group the two layer colors
- CMD+I to apply mask
- black the face area
dramatic eyes
- add curve adjustment layer
- curve it up at center top
- create mask, and Cmd+I to invert
- choose soft round brush
- go to lower part of eye and dab white
- switch to black then remove shine on skin, you only want it on the eye

open layer style
- on blending options
- go to underlying layer
- split it using Opt key
- this makes it more natural
