Notes on Lesson 08 - "Blend If" explained| PiXimperfect

Notes

what is blend-if

  • controls which areas show up and which hide based on brightness levels

shine and dimension

  • add solid color layer

    • sample color of highlight
    • pick brighter or lower shade
    • mask- CMD+I
  • dab white on mask wherever you want the highlight
  • change blend mode to 'Screen'
  • take away from darkened areas

    • double click on right hand side of highlight layer to open up 'layer style'
    • in 'Blending Options', move underlying layer lefthand slider to the right
    • hold Opt key on lefthand slider to break it apart, move the rightmost to the right, and left a bit left

adjustment

  • you can change the highlight color to anything you like by changing the color of the solid color layer

refine it

  • CMD+J on color layer to duplicate it
  • open the layer style
  • modify underlying layer

apply only to hair ignoring face

  • group the two layer colors
  • CMD+I to apply mask
  • black the face area

dramatic eyes

  • add curve adjustment layer
  • curve it up at center top
  • create mask, and Cmd+I to invert
  • choose soft round brush
  • go to lower part of eye and dab white
  • switch to black then remove shine on skin, you only want it on the eye
  • open layer style

    • on blending options
    • go to underlying layer
    • split it using Opt key
    • this makes it more natural
